New Changes and Reforms Introduced For The Super Visa

Super Visa is a multi-entry visitor visa which is applicable for applying for the parents and grandparents of the permanent residents and citizens of Canada. The visa which comes under the category of temporary visa allows the citizens or the permanent residents to bring parents as well as grandparents to Canada. The visa is valid for up to 10 years. New revisions have come into being relating to the rules regarding the Super Visa application and entry system applicable form 4th July 2022.

Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) provide permanent residence to applicants. The spots for the program is very less and is limited to thirty five thousand applications whereas around 200,000 interest to sponsor forms a year is received at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The lottery system to select the eligible applicants further reduces the chance of the applicants to get selected under the program. Super Visa with its more flexible entry is given as an alternative for the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP). The lottery system is not applicable for Super Visa. Holders need not renew their visa when they re-enter Canada as long as the validity period is not over. Holders of the Super Visa also get more stay period in Canada.

As per the new reforms, for each person entering Canada using the Super Visa the length of the stay in Canada has been increased to five years. The Super Visa Holders in Canada can also apply to lengthen their stay upto two years after the five year stay period is over. In affect the holders of Super Visa can therefore stay in Canada for upto seven continuous years. The revision also allows and gives the power regarding the designation of international medical insurance companies to Super Visa Holders in future to the Immigration Minister of Canada.

As per the previous regulations regarding the Super Visa only upto two year stay period was granted to each holder entering Canada. Also the medical insurance for the applicants could only be given by Canadian insurance providers. According to the new changes for five continuous years parents and grandparents can stay in Canada and during the period there is no need to renew the visa. The applicant medical insurance coverage can be acquired from other countries outside Canada. Canadian politician Kyle Seeback who put forward these reforms originally opined that this will save cost for the Super Visa holders and their families. Further he said he is confident that when any Super Visa Holders get sick the government will cover the costs according to the framework for international insurance companies.
